Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf* 9F T 2YO Fillies G5+
WIN: Celebrity PLACE: Silent Front SHOW: Incineration 4th: Enchanting Soldier
Celebrity was the first to break and took the lead right away with Incineration at her flank. A stumble at the start took Enchanting Soldier to the rear but it wasnt long until she reached Silent Front. Another fast paced race, these fillies kept each other on their toes. The placings seemed to change with every stride as they all hunched together in a small group. Celebrity held onto the lead, even as she was being pressed along going around the turn. What an impressive run for each of these fillies. They hung together the entire race. There were no bumps or bobbles. It was a good clean run. Coming into the stretch, the closers were making their moves but none could reach the chestnut in the frlont.

BREEDER'S CUP FILLY AND MARE TURF* 10F Turf, G4+, F&M Only Win. Pandora Place. Lissome Show. Impress The Moonlight Fourth. Stalking The Stars Fifth. Scintilla Sixth. Melusine
Pandora: Although, she started out Year Sixteen on dirt, it seemed fitting that the princess of the turf in Y16, assumed the crown of queen in Y17. Her latest performances at ten furlongs in the World Filly Cup and World Turf Cup caused her to go off as the favorite. She rolled out of the gate and kept going from there, taking the lead and never once looking back. This was a challenge and Pandora ran the bravest race of her career, staving off the rested Lissome and determined Impress The Moonlight. Congratulations on the victory!
Lissome: Coming off the second place finish in the Beverly D. Handicap, Lissome was ready to fire and fire she did. She ran second to Pandora throughout, applying pressure to keep the front-runner honest. Her gameness was on display when the race came down to a three way battle down the lane. With Pandora on her inside and Impress The Moonlight on her outside, she never wavered. It was an unlucky head-bob that cost the win.
Impress The Moonlight: Although, you were shaky about entering her in this race, Isa, I think she was well-suited to going out here. Her race was extremely admirably. She ran hard and tough, giving Pandora and Lissome all they could handle in the final furlong.
Stalking The Stars: Wow, even if this mare ends her career with a fourth place finish, she is going to be huge for your broodmare band! This has been her best year of racing with several impressive HOTY wins. Her consistency over the seasons is admirable.
Scintilla: In a fairly even three year old turf filly division, Scintilla has fought tooth and nail to get to the top of the division. She has proven HOTY experience, but her biggest wins this season mostly came at less than 10F. She'll be tough as an older mare.
Melusine: I really think she'll improve as she ages just like Sillenia. She had a solid year, but didn't win anything of major note. She shows strong promise for improvement. The waters were a lot deeper in this race.

BREEDER'S CUP TURF SPRINT* 6.5F Turf/ 3yo+, G4+ Win. Call Me Crooked Place. Daring Vision Show. Phantasm Frost Fourth. Sugar Demon
Sugar Demon: I think she's a fun sort of filly. The top three have been difficult for a very long time and even regular grade one horses would have a tough time facing the top trio. Don't get down on her, instead, plan to come back even stronger as the horses are likely to retire and leave a power vacuum!

BREEDER'S CUP JUVENILE TURF* 9F Turf, G5+, 2yo Only
Win. Eternally Smoldering Place. Wild Havoc Show. Flawless Majesty Fourth. Prometheus Fifth. Knight's Ransom Sixth. Mr. Wild
All of you are vicious creatures. I sincerely think that this is the best group of juvenile males we've had in a long time! Thank goodness for that because the Turf Triple Crown definitely has been lonely or overly female in the past. I can't knock any horse in terms of pedigree or class, all of them are proven to get victories over various distances. Really the biggest thing that came to play was running style, freshness, tactical advantage and the ability to keep it together in the face of a huge crowd.
Eternally Smoldering: If there is a model of consistency in the juvenile crop, it is Eternally Smoldering. From January to December and everywhere in between, this colt has been in every major race and taken on everyone. Rested after a so-so late summer-early fall campaign, he came back with a strong win in the Louisiana Champion's Day Classic Stakes, got rid of that extra fat he'd gained and was focused for the final race of Year Sixteen. He worked hard to beat Wild Havoc and will probably enjoy a rest in the initial three weeks of Year Seventeen. He truly deserved this hard-fought victory! Congratulations!
Wild Havoc: This colt is simply outstanding, in talent, looks. The only problem he had was his attitude. He came rip-roaring out onto the track, fully fired up by the commotion. His last start was this month and he was on his A-game once he got out there. Although he lost today, I still think he is the favorite for the crown next year. He's only ever raced 9F once in his career and I think he will be a true classic distance horse. He probably could go right into January starting immediately since he was so well-rested the latter half of his campaign.
Flawless Majesty: He's a special colt in his own way. I love his personality and his ability to settle anywhere when it comes to the pace. I think he is one of those rare talents who can mile and carry their speed. Like the top two, he won his return race and made a statement. It's hard to put him third, but he lost nothing in defeat against this crowd. I'm curious to see if you pursue the miles with him or the Turf Triple Crown, or maybe even both.
Prometheus: Boy has this guy won my affection over the season. Picking off where his sire was only so-so, Prometheus has already shown himself to be worthy. I love how he can compete on both surfaces, over all of the distances. I think he'll go in any direction you take him. I thought he might encounter some traffic trouble today and with such classy foes running so well on the front end, I thought he might have too much to do with too little ground to give. If this race had been a furlong more, I think he would have been the winner. He made the ending too close for comfort and the top three will need to be on the lookout.
Knight's Ransom: Although he finished fifth, I just want to congratulate you on campaigning a two year old so well in your first season. To have a juvenile with six wins and competing against the best of the best at the end of the year, is tough even for older members. While he did place out of the money and at the moment looks to be an undercard horse, he does have great potential to mature well into a three year old. Since this was his first race since November Wk 4, I think he'll be perfectly fine running immediately in January to build up his three year old status.
Mr. Wild: He ran the most this season with 22 starts and has faced all sorts of levels. His latest performance was a second place finish in an undercard race. He has the foundation, but I think a heavy season caught up to him within the final furlong. He strikes me as a colt that will do better as he ages and with at least a month of rest, I think he'll come out firing on all cylinders. Maybe focus him on undercard races and steadily build him up as you did with Altercation.

BREEDER'S CUP FILLY AND MARE TURF SPRINT* 7F T 3yo+ Fillies/Mares Only G5+ FIRST Taboo SECOND Athena's Desires THIRD Valine FOURTH Silver Serendipity FIFTH Stiletto Allure
Athena's Desires took the lead immediately one horse wide off the rail with Stiletto Allure on her hip on the inside and Silver Serendipity on her hip on the outside. Hard and fast immediately, the mid pack runners Valine and Taboo dueled to not be back of the pack. The two stalkers burned into Athena, while Taboo shot from the back. Silver Serendipity tired and lost momentum having already faced two major races this month. Taboo had plenty of go left and overtook the scorched Athena, with Valine bobbing her head to claim third. Stiletto Allure put in a good showing but hasn't run in a few months and wasn't quite prepped for this.

BREEDER'S CUP MARATHON* WIN Vagabond PLACE Devil's Flair SHOW Barely Smokin' fourth Meritorious fifth Radiation Therapy
Radiation Therapy: He faced some really tough competition today, as the Breeder's Cup always goes. However, you've got a lot to be proud of here! This poor horse has been tossed around so much, but he's still managed to stay pretty consistent. I really hope you campaign him for his six-year-old season! He's perfectly poised to do something special.
Meritorious: I juggled this mare around, but in the end I just thought that the top three were stronger at this point of the year. She's so strong in her division though! She's loved BSD's track this year, and has proven that she's capable of going nose-to-nose with the best.
Barely Smokin': I know this probably wasn't the result you were looking for, but he's lost nothing in defeat to the top two horses and he's definitely a superstar in the making! He obviously loves this distance, and gave the veterans a run for their money. I think he'll come out swinging something furious next year, and he's going to be pretty hard to stop.
Devil's Flair: He was just edged by Vagabond, but I'd like to say that both of these top two have come such a long way since last year. You've done a phenomenal job with him, and it was literally a head-bob situation that separated him from the win.
Congratulations everyone!

BREEDER'S CUP JUVENILE* WIN Black Thriller PLACE Proletariat SHOW Cascabel fourth Soaring Passion fifth Arctic Fox sixth Gold Rush
I started a write-up that I wasn't going to be able to finish tonight, and I figured you guys would rather just have the results :P Black Thriller pulled this upset over Proletariat and Cascabel with grit and determination. He might not have the wins to his name, but he has been racing in top company all year and seemed the type to me to have a dramatic, gutsy bow into the new year. He reminds me a lot of a Hoppertunity type! Quite frankly, any of the top three could have taken this race, and the whole field had a legitimate shot. None of these horses didn't belong here, and I love seeing such a strong field in the Breeders' Cup!

Hello everyone and welcome to Year Sixteen's edition of the Breeders Cup Turf! We have a field of four gearing up to run over the soft turf course today. Those ten furlongs should be veryyyy interesting given the track conditions, though considering how seasoned this field is this might not even matter!
The crowd is still buzzing over the last race, what has to be the biggest upset of the Breeders Cup so far in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Stride of Perfection's Black Thriller certainly was surprising in that stretch. Sources indicated that SOPS were expecting their other juvenile colt, Prometheus, to bring home a Breeders Cup victory, if anything, and Black Thriller's win was a surprise. Well, that smug look on Valencia Andrews's face must have been telling us something during the post parade.
Speaking of - said stable does not have an entrant in this year's Breeders Cup Turf, something which I can't remember ever happening in living memory. They certainly have a stake in it, though - they had a hand in breeding three of these four entrants, and the only one they had no influence over, Like A Lady, has a sire and dam that they have thoroughly experimented with in the form of Melusine and Infinite Warcry. They certainly seem extremely pumped up about this race - wait, are they arguing between themselves?
Yes - I'm getting info now that the group is legitimately fighting over who they believe will win this race. Amber Black appears to have staked her choice on Take Flight, claiming that the full sibling to Simply A Flyer will live up to his legacy and take the race his Hall Of Fame sibling won. Krystal Yhate is fiercely defending the credentials of Spotlight Pride - according to her, he'll be in front the entire time and nobody will have an opportunity to catch him. Meanwhile, World Dominion is being claimed by a very certain Kylie Silverstar - she has seemed rather hooked on following his racing career. Well, Valencia Andrews is defending her choice in Like A Lady. Something about the filly being so tough the field won't know what to do with her. Nobody could dispute the veracity of that statement! I guess we'll see in a few minutes.
The horses are on the turf and appear to be finding it to their liking. Spotlight Pride is looking gorgeous and energetic today. The speedy horse is coming off a win against the best in the Tropical Rainforest Invitational. He's defied the odds by proving he can run just fine, thank you very much beyond a mile. He leads the parade with energetic authority. He is followed by Like A Lady, much loved for her class and heart. The bay filly looks absolutely ferocious, and she's making sure every horse out there knows just who they're racing against today. She's coming off a solid third place finish in the World Filly Cup. Her Man O'War Stakes performance in October was scintillating and I'm looking forward to seeing how she does here against these behemoths. World Dominion will take gate three. The Turf Triple Crown favorite brought home the Belmont Turf Classic and proved his love for twelve furlongs in the Merry Bay King Memorial last out. He's been intensely training since that win and hasn't raced for nearly three months, though this should suit the colt just fine. He's definitely the best rested in the field and just look at that motion! Bringing up the rear is Take Flight. He last raced for a third place finish in the Champion Stakes and is cutting back from that race to ten furlongs today. He's truly run a very impressive season and is currently the co-favorite with Spotlight Pride.
They all certainly look good during the warm ups. I have no idea who the most likely winner of this race is.
Now they're loading, and oh so professionally, too. It takes barely two minutes to get them all in line...and they're off!
Spotlight Pride breaks like a torpedo and goes straight for that lead. Like A Lady is right there with him and she parks herself right at his outside, allowing him about a half-length of space. World Dominion closely follows them, and Take Flight, half a beat slow, settles himself about two lengths back from the lead and a length behind World Dominion. They all move extremely easily around that first turn, Spotlight Pride gaining a quarter length and saving ground on the inside. Take Flight is riding the rail in back, equally comfortable and not yet a threat. Like A Lady sticks doggedly to Spotlight Pride, biding her time, and World Dominion rides the rail in third.
Spotlight Pride snaps out a quarter in twenty two and four fifths - quick, but he makes it look easy. Like A Lady is taken a bit in hand now and slowed slightly, letting Spotlight Pride gain a full length in front. Looks like her jockey doesn't want her going so fast so soon. World Dominion ghosts up her outside. Take Flight is still moving pretty as you please about two lengths behind them. He's in no rush at all, though I can't say the same for Spotlight Pride. He snaps out the half in a devastatingly easy forty six flat and looks really smooth. They continue down the backstretch and so far it doesn't seem like too much of a race. Looks like they're waiting for the final turn in order to make their moves.
Halfway down, and now Take Flight is moving. He's about a length behind Like A Lady and World Dominion, moving easy and keeping an eye out for gaps. Spotlight Pride draws off and is leading now by one and a half lengths. It's like he's daring the other horses to come up and challenge him for that lead! Like A Lady is glaring down World Dominion, and now World Dominion is moving up, cutting into Spotlight Pride's lead and beginning to apply some steady pressure. He draws up alongside and parks himself there defiantly. Like A Lady doesn't seem to like that too much, but I know this filly likes her game of cat and mouse. She'll bide her time. Take Flight senses a gap and now strides up alongside, still moving easily. That seems to make Like A Lady happier. Boy does the filly like a good fight.
They're approaching the final turn now. Reese says GO on Spotlight Pride and the stallion accelerates slightly. World Dominion gamely sticks to him, refusing to give an inch. They're ahead of the other two by about two lengths now - wait, never mind! Like A Lady has been asked to go and go she does, surging forward to challenge and bearing up on their outside. And Take Flight - here comes Take Flight! The stallion is following her. He finds a gap in between World Dominion and Spotlight Pride and now he's moving, he's accelerating. They come off the final turn, and it appears as though Spotlight Pride is beginning to draw off. Take Flight is racing hard after him, and we have Like A Lady and World Dominion engaged in a fight of their own in the back.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a horse race!!
Spotlight Pride is showing off his famed stamina and speed by holding on to that lead, but Take Flight is coming on hard. The stallion absolutely swarms Spotlight Pride, drawing up alongside. Reese is urging her colt on, and Andrew Martin up on Take Flight is doing the same, and the two are neck and neck...to say nothing of Like A Lady and World Dominion two lengths behind them, now three as the duel intensifies. I almost don't know where to look!
Spotlight Pride puts a nose in front...Take Flight draws even again...they're down to the final furlongs...I have NO IDEA who won, no idea who placed third as Like A Lady and World Dominion are absolutely glued back there...
And the results are in!
BREEDERS CUP TURF - 10F T win Take Flight place Spotlight Pride show Like A Lady fourth World Dominion
Congratulations to Take Flight and Grayson Meadows on a well-fought, hard-won victory!
This race made me pull my hair out and I literally needed to write the write-up in order to decide. I saw Take Flight proving his prowess here to take down Spotlight Pride, who has done better than I ever dreamed at these distances. I saw Like A Lady's toughness taking down World Dominion for this edition of Deadly Races To Judge. It was such a close race...such a fantastic group. Congratulations to all on racing some very fine horses!

BREEDER'S CUP CLASSIC* WIN Speak Easy PLACE Uno Momento SHOW Ultimate Revenge fourth Incognito
What an unbelievably classy field! I don't really have to say it, but any of these horses could have won this. Speak Easy has really impressed me this season, and he battled Uno Momento to a raw finish, just out-dueling the three-year-old. Ultimate Revenge was in great position today, leading the field boldly, and was able to hang on for third over a furious Incognito. He couldn't, however, hold off the tidal wave that was the top two finishers. Congrats on a great year everyone!
